This New Yorker fiction piece had me so riveted while reading it on my commute that I didn't stop even as I got off the train and walking slowly, still reading, up the stairs. I stood under the dimly lit awning of my neighborhood grocery store to read a bit until I decided I would run home, which I did, to finish it.
