Hey you!

These past two weeks I've participated in an outdoor sales event for my company that can only be likened to sorority recruitment. A mental and lingual marathon, where you quickly get comfortable chatting up strangers and you're forced to learn to brush off rejections. Smiling and smiling until the face muscles twitch then trying to laugh so the twitch blends in. How is it my body is fatigued when I've stood in this same room / around this same tent all day? Well the practice sharpens the wit and quickens the self introduction, which in the sales game, as those pink and blue parties also were in essence, is never a bad thing.

A new realization for me today is that crowd sales are harder work, and people you approach are much faster to dismiss you when in groups, even unrelated. Seeing the previous "no thank yous," and even steeling themselves to be cautious upon detecting your approach toward the gathering, does a lot to start you off at a disadvantage. So like a hunt, but one where you charm your target by painting them a picture of benefits.

A glimmer of success at last week's event, a big fat zero this week. I'll need to focus before the hunt gets desperate.
